Couture Clothes: Do the designers ever get to make clothes for themselves?

What about the designers that make the Couture Clothes? Why is it that when you see them on the runway or in photos, they always look kind of dull, as in not wearing their own fabulous couture pieces?

Well, it is true that a designer time is consumed in designing for their clients, collection pieces, sourcing fabrics and fibers, marketing and networking, administration, social media, and the list goes on and on. I have heard Jason Davell a designer that is a friend of mine say, "The only way that I can design for myself is if I pay myself, because that is time that I am not being paid by my clients.

Well myself as a designer that makes Couture Clothes for men, make the time for it! Of course it helps being a sample size, I often wind up using myself as a manikin when shaping the creative couture knitwear.

Here are the Top three reasons why designers all should design for themselves:

  1. You are always your #1 Brand Ambassador. If you don't wear your clothes, how do expect anyone else to?
  2. As a designer you are seen in important places on the runway, at fashion events, gala celebrations, in night life, and around town. My favorite clients are the ones that chase me down on the street asking, "Did you make that, where can I get something like that?
  3. Wherever you are based out of, the designers main concern is to grow, develop, and elevate the local fashion culture. You need to represent. Here in Chicago, when you don't wear the typical "Chicago Uniform" for men, you tend to stand out and turn heads. By being yourself and expressing that through fashion, you empower others to break the mold and do the same.

Here are some of the couture clothes looks I have been seen about town in recently, and yes some of these looks caught are in fact selfies, which in essence are tacky, but have become important in documenting fashion creativity. This look was for a Red Carpet Gala Celebration of Education and Choices for Organic Non-GMO for the modeling industries.

This was a very important event for my Mom J-na, see why this was so special and important educational summit for the modeling and fashion industries.
